Race Rules and Conditions of Entry

  • Only competent swimmers who are fit and adequately trained should enter.
  • An official online entry must be completed by each swimmer or team. Completion of the online entry form and payment of the entry fee represents acceptance of these Race Rules and Conditions of Entry and the Competitor Declaration.
  • Swimmers should ensure that they have a confirmed entry. If you do not receive a confirmation email and your entry does not appear on the confirmed entrants list (published on the Busselton Jetty Swim website) then please contact the race organizers as soon as possible via email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.   • All participants must check-in at the Beachfront Marquee on either Saturday 4 February 2012 between 15:00 and 17:30 (preferred option) or Sunday 5 February 2012 between 06:00 and 07:00.  At check-in swimmers will recieve their swim cap, timing band, race number and wave start.
  • The following age categories apply for male and female : under 15; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75 and over. Age category is based on age on race day.
  • Competitors may enter for a solo swim, a relay team of 2 or a relay team of 4.
  • The solo swim is 3.6km.
  • Relay team of 2: first leg 1.4km, beach start exiting at Allie’s Landing; second leg 2.2km, starting at Allie’s Landing, rounding the end of the jetty and finishing on the shore.
  • Relay team of 4: first leg 1.0km, beach start exiting at Jetty Platform (east); second leg 0.4km, starting at Jetty Platform (east) exiting at Allie’s Landing; third leg 1.2km starting at Allie’s Landing, rounding the end of the jetty and finishing at the Jetty Platform (west); fourth leg 1km, starting at the Jetty Platform (west) and finishing on the shore.
  • Relay members must swim through ‘gates’ to the landing and tag their teammate who will then proceed to the next relay point. Race marshals will be present the relay changeovers.
  • The swim course is marked with buoys; swimmers should use these as a guide.
  • Swimmers or support craft are not permitted to go under any part of the Jetty unless directed by Race Officials.
  • Wetsuits and/or swimming aids are permitted but wearers will not be eligible for awards.
  • Wetsuits and/or swimming aids must be declared on the entry form.
  • Swim caps indicating starting wave and team category will be supplied and must be worn.
  • Competitors will be required to have their race number displayed on their front left thigh with waterproof marker.
  • All swimmers will be given a timing band to be worn on the ankle.
  • Solo swimmers and the last swimmer in each team will be timed as they cross the timing mats at the beach finish.  Swimmers finishing on the jetty must walk over the timing mat at the foot of the jetty to "check-out" of the swim and hand in their timing band.
  • All swimmers receive a finisher's award.
  • Solo swimmers must proceed to the check-in desk upon finishing state their race number and collect their finisher’s award.
  • Final team swimmers must proceed to the check-in desk upon finishing, verify that their team has finished, all members of the team are accounted for and collect the team’s finisher awards.
  • Finisher's awards must be collected from the check-in Beachfront Marquee by 1.00pm Sunday 5 February 2012.  Finisher's awards will not be posted out.
  • Trophies are awarded as per the award list (see below).
  • Trophies must be collected at the official awards presentation (in person or by proxy).  Trophies will not be posted out.
  • Awards and trophies collected by proxy must be signed for.
  • Swimmers withdrawing from the event must present themselves at the check-in desk and confirm their withdrawal.
  • Failure to return a timing band will result in a $25 penalty payable at the check-in desk on the day.
  • On water safety and support is provided by Surf Life Saving and personal support paddlers are no longer permitted, however if you feel you have a special need requiring your own personal support or provisions this must be indicated as part of your online entry.
  • All vessels in the vicinity of the event, whether involved in the event or not must abide by the Navigable Waters Regulations. Authorized officers will police these regulations as part of the overall safety provisions for the event.
  • A swimmer may be disqualified at the discretion of the race organisers for contravening the race rules or for unsporting conduct.
  • The organisers of the swim, Busselton Allsports Inc., reserve the right to accept or reject any entry at their discretion and also to issue special invitations.
  • Entries close at midnight, Western Standard Time, Wednesday 1 February 2012.
  • Late entries are not accepted.
  • If a member of a team cannot swim on the day, a replacement can be approved by the check-in desk for a team member only, not for solo entrants. The replacement team swimmer must fill in an entry form and sign the waiver at the check-in desk.
  • Refunds are only available if applied for in writing or by email and must be applied for prior to the entry closing date of Wednesday 1 February 2012. A $10 administration fee per swimmer will be retained.
  • The event organisers reserve the right to cap numbers or close entries early.
